First, don’t worry. Relax, get ready to have fun with your favorite music playing. This is your time. Let me be the nervous one; after all, if I don’t make you look your best, you might just fire me :-).
Since you don’t know what backgrounds you are selecting bring in several different styles of clothing. The more the better.
Set out clothes the night before and iron out all wrinkles
Bring in personal items that reflect your interests. This can be school or sports related, a musical instrument, letter jackets, hats, books, purses, soccer ball, skateboard, guitar, trophies, etc.
Yes this goes for guys too; oily shiny skin on the face ruins a portrait, so please bring some translucent powder and applicator. Guys you can borrow moms.
Bring a hair brush
Even though we have much more to choose from than what’s currently shown on the Home page, take a look at the photos there and try to decide on at least one backdrop/set before your session (access film strip at bottom of Home page for fast navigating). Let us know by email what backdrop/set you’ve chosen and come dressed and ready for that shoot. Girls, if you can’t decide and you have a solid black or solid white outfit, then come dressed in that; it goes with everything. If you would like to shoot outdoors and/or you have any special requests, please let us know beforehand. This will save us valuable time during your session.
Your session may last up to two hours so please be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before.
If you’re the type who wants to look your thinnest choose dark pants and loose dark styles of clothing with long sleeves. Loose clothing always looks better in portraits.
Bring in everything from casual to dressy. Some of the key pieces would be solid colored casual shirts, dressy tops preferably with straps, dress pants, and a nice pair of jeans.
Bring in black. Black goes with every color of background. White is another color that goes with everything. So if you bring in one thing that is black and one that is white you will be able to select any color of background. Beyond that, bring in any other colors that look good on you; preferably solid mid to dark tone colors.
Rather than shopping for new clothes, bring in outfits that you are comfortable with and have worn before.
Beware of tight clothing. It can create bulges around the waist even if you’re thin.
Be sure to wear the right color of under garments that match your outfits.
Make sure all your nails (feet too) are looking their best (clear or neutral colors work best).
Bring in high heels, the higher the better. They make you look more poised, make the feet look smaller, and show more muscle tone.
Pantyhose are always good for thinner and tanner looking legs, but remember not to wear toe-less shoes.
Wear a minimum amount of makeup (and that goes for eye-liner, mascara, blush, and eye-shadow too). A little goes a long way in a portrait, and I can always add more in retouching, but taking away is another story. Besides, natural beauty after a good retouching job will always look best in a portrait.
With the foundation, make sure you have minimized any demarcation lines between the cheek and neck, and a little cheek blush (not too much) is fine. It highlights the cheek bones for those beauty shots.
Bring in pics of any fashion magazine poses you like
First, this is your opportunity to get that cool-looking Facebook profile shot. Don’t blow it! It’s also an opportunity to get that 15 minutes of fame that could last a life time in pictures, and not to mention, impress the women of your dreams. Trust me, senior photos are not just for the girls. This is your chance to show your true colors, so let’s get it right.
Bring in solid mid to dark tone colors if you’ve got them; preferably long sleeve unless you want to show your muscles . Dark solid long sleeve button-up shirts with collars always look good.
Bring in the correct color of socks for any shoes and pants that may be taken full length.
Bring in at least one pair of jeans, more if you have them.
Make sure your tennis shoes don’t stand out! White striped tennis shoes (or even white shoes) or florescent colors tend to be a distraction.
Consider getting a haircut one week prior to your session.
